2022 Barolo Bussia Vigna Fantini, Paolo Scavino (PIedmont, Italy)
$99.99
The family's newest vineyard and their first in Monforte d'Alba, bought in 2018, the same year they lost their Cannubi lease after 33 years. Bussia is one of Barolo's biggest names, and Fantini is its highest sub zone, about 450 meters up, on sandy, chalky soil where the rest of Bussia mixes sand with limestone or clay. The vines went in between 2006 and 2010, and Elisa Scavino treats the block as experimental because of its genetic mix, Nebbiolo Rosé among the clones. 2021 was the first bottling and 2022 is the second, about 350 cases. James Suckling scored it 98. Menthol, blood orange, violet, dried rose and licorice, with polished, refined tannin. Bussia is known for power, and this one is all elegance.
