2022 Barolo, Paolo Scavino (PIedmont, Italy)
$55.99
The family's Barolo blend and the best introduction to how they work. The fruit comes from several of their crus across three villages, Castiglione Falletto, Barolo and Serralunga d'Alba, with sites like Rocche Moriondino, Albarella and San Bernardo, so it shows the whole zone in one glass. For its first three vintages in their hands, the Bussia Vigna Fantini fruit went into this wine while the family learned the site. 2022 was a drought year, with yields across Barolo down by a fifth to almost half, and Scavino ran the region's first trials of automated nets built to shade the grapes from the sun. The result is a warmer, fleshier Barolo that is open young. Cherry, clove, dried rose and a mineral finish.
