2025 Garnacha, Lechuza (Carinena, Spain)
A pure expression of dry-farmed, high-elevation, dry farmed Aragonese Garnacha that completely eschews oak extraction in favor of naked, crystalline fruit focus. The glass opens with high-toned, electric aromatics— think macerated wild strawberries, crushed red raspberries, and redcurrant jelly, laced with a subtle floral lift of wild thyme, dried violet petals, and crushed white peppercorn. On the palate, it hits with immediate mid-weight tension and remarkable fluid grace. Vibrant red-berry intensity glides across a seamless, supple frame, underpinned by a distinct granitic minerality that grounds the wine’s inherent warmth. The tannins are fine-grained and featherweight, offering just enough gentle, tea-leaf grip to shape the fruit without weighing down the mid-palate. Driven by a vibrant vein of natural acidity, the finish is crisp, clean, and surprisingly persistent, closing on lingering notes of blood orange zest and dried Mediterranean scrub.
