4 and 6 bottle levels $20 (member price $17)
90% Montepulciano, 10% Sangiovese 14.3% ABV
For over a decade, Maurizio Marchetti and Antonio Sanguineti have playfully competed to see who can make the best Italian wine. Along the way, neither has ever “won” their little competition, but they have earned a great respect and fondness for each other. So they decided to join forces and make a great wine together. They call it “Due Amici” - two friends, pronounced “doo-ay ah-me-chee“. If Marchetti sounds familiar, it could be from his spectacular Verdicchio, featured on and off on VV’s shelves. Conero Rosso is just south of the ancient seaport of Ancona, about midway between the better known regions of Emilia-Romagna and Abruzzo. Neutral Slavonian botti for eight months, then one month in stainless steel, finally four months in bottle before release. Fresh red cherry, red currant, black plum on attack, with a brooding finish.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
This classy red pairs perfectly with beef braised in tomatoes and red wine, beef stew with vegetables and barley, chicken and red pepper brochettes and even grilled beef burgers smothered with aged Cheddar. This Italian red is also delightful with cheeses like Parmesan, Asiago, Pepper Jack and for an unexpected surprise, try a glass with dark chocolate covered cherries.
