4AUG05 Babylonstoren ROSÉ OF MOURVÈDRE, Simonsberg-Paarl, South Africa 2024 (F, O)
4 and 6 bottle levels $22 (member price $19)
100% Mourvèdre 12.5% ABV
We featured the 2019 and the 2021 vintages of this wine in club, and some members are still asking for them. It’s fun to be able to feature a fresh-off-the-boat 2024 wine alongside a 2015 built-for-aging white (#3 Clisson Muscadet) in the same month! In 1692, Babylonstoren Farm in Drakenstein Valley was granted to Pieter van der Byl, and he soon planted vineyards. The farm changed hands a number of times, and has produced grapes for over 300 years, but it wasn’t until 2011 when the first vintage of a wine named Babylonstoren was produced. Babylonstoren’s garden is one of only two gardens in Africa to be recognized by the Royal Horticultural Society. The fruit for their 2024 Rosé is from Simonsberg Mountain and Franschhoek Valley. The attack is hard and mineral based, with blackberry and red raspberry. The finish has candied watermelon and strawberry. Stainless steel aging.
