4 and 6 bottle levels $23 (member price $20)
58% Chambourcin, 42% Vidal Blanc 12.2% ABV
Early Mountain Vineyards is owned by Jean Case, the Chairman of the National Geographical Society. A Virginia resident for 35 years, she opened Early Mountain in 2012. Both Chambourcin and Vidal Blanc are French-American hybrid varieties. European varieties were grafted onto North American rootstocks in the late 1800’s as a successful strategy against Phylloxera. Hybrids continue to thrive in the Atlantic coastal states, the midwest and into Canada. They co-fermented whole cluster Chambourcin and Vidal Blanc, then aged in neutral French oak and stainless steel. Tangerine, apricot, red cherry, violet, with hints of chalk.
