4JUL09 Domaine de Thulon “Les Charmes“ GAMAY, Morgon, Beaujolais, France 2022 (F, O)
4 and 6 bottle levels $23 (member price $20)
100% Gamay 13.5% ABV
The winery is located on the old estate of Château de Thulon (15th century) and was purchased by Annie and René Jambon in 1987 after they were “métayers” (sharecroppers) for 20 years there. This is easier said than done, and is a matter of pride within the family. Their children Carine and Laurent are now running the estate. Les Charmes is one of the most famous lieu dits in all Beaujolais, not just Morgon. 50 year old vines planted on pink granite soil. This wine undergoes carbonic maceration, with the resulting fresh and fruity aromas. The wine is young and fresh now, but will reward cellaring for 5+ years. Consider getting an extra bottle to age. Dark cherry, red currant, violet, rose petals. Aged in stainless steel.
