4JUN12 Kilikanoon “Killerman’s Run” CABERNET SAUVIGNON, Clare Valley, South Australia 2019 (F, O)
4 a4 and 6 bottle levels $23 (member price $20)
100% Cabernet Sauvignon 14.0% ABV
Clare Valley is north of Adelaide, and has become famous for world class bone-dry rieslings, but the region’s diverse terroirs mean that fruit for high quality red wines can also be grown there. At the southern end of Leasingham lies the Golden Hillside, the heart of Kilikanoon’s estate vineyards. Kevin Mitchell purchased the existing Kilakanoon winery in 1997, and with the help of his father Mort, produced his first vintage that same year. The estate was named Kilikanoon by the original English settlers (after a historic mansion in Cornwall). The Killerman’s Run lineup of wines is in honor of Mr. Killerman, a rustic gentleman who lived in a modest shed on the property and foraged for his meals. Aged 12 months in new and neutral French oak. Blueberry, black plum, mint, dark chocolate.
