4JUN07 Vorspannhof Mayr ZWEIGELT, Dross, Kremstal, Neiderösterreich, Austria 2022 (F, O) 1-Liter Bottle
4 and 6 bottle levels $23 (member price $20)
100% Zweigelt 12.5% ABV
Wine has been grown on the estate since the 1100’s, and the Mayr family acquired the vineyards and buildings in 1898. Their winegrowers house was originally used as a waystation for changing horses. The current proprietor (Silke Mayr) is the 4th generation owner. Zweigelt is Austria’s most planted red wine grape and is a cross between Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent. European Pinot Noir drinkers would like this wine. The fruit comes from their Stratzinger Satzen Vineyard, and is aged in large neutral oak barrels. Red cherry, red raspberry, violet, black pepper. It’s in a 1-Liter bottle, so it’s a little more fun!
