4MAY01 Weingut Frank RIESLING, Herrnbaumgarten, Weinvertal, Niederösterreich, Austria 2022 (F, O)
4 and 6 bottle levels $23 (member price $20)
100% Riesling 12.5% ABV
Harald and Johanna Frank are the owners of this 10th generation family owned winery, located in Herrnbaumgarten, just 15 minutes south of the border of the Czech Republic. Niederösterreich (Lower Austria) is known for flatter terrain and lower altitudes than other wine growing regions of Austria, but Weingut Frank has steep hillside vineyards and elevations ranging from 600 feet to 1100 feet, and Loess soil (windblown sediment from the last Ice Age). This Riesling has 6.7gr/liter residual sugar, so while it’s a dry wine, it has a hint of sweetness to balance the screaming acidity. Apricot, peach, lime, rose petals. Aged in stainless steel.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
Enjoy with spicy pad Thai, grilled pork loins drizzled with Thai green‐chile sauce over sticky rice, fish tacos with crispy pickled jalapeños and avocado crema, scallop ceviche with cilantro and Moo Shu shrimp; or enjoy with picnic fried chicken, delicate shrimp scampi, herb‐crusted grilled chicken under a brick, fried oysters and red snapper with creamy cilantro sauce. Pair with cheeses like Humboldt Fog, Brillat‐Savarin, Crottin & Bûcheron.
