4MAY06 Pierre Rougon ROSÉ BLEND, Tavel, Rhône Valley, France 2023 (F)
4 and 6 bottle levels $23 (member price $20)
Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Clairette, Carignan 13.5% ABV
Tavel is the only appellation in the Rhône Valley devoted only to Rosé. Tavel Rosé is known for deep color (because of longer skin contact), full body and ability to age. In the 1400’s Pope Innocent VI moved to nearby Avignon, and increased the visibility of Tavel wines. Pierre Rougon inherited his family’s estate in Beaumes de Venise in 1990, and has since expanded his offerings to the Southern Rhône’s most prestigious appellations. Aged in stainless steel. Deep hue for a Rosé, notes of watermelon, red raspberry, grapefruit, violet, thyme.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
This luscious rosé promises to be your go-to summer wine pairing perfectly with sunshine quaffed on the back deck as an apéritif or with creamy guacamole (Cinco de Mayo anyone?), Vietnamese spring rolls with herbs and mint, cheesy artichoke dip, goat cheese crostini, baked Brie, tarragon chicken salad, chicken satay with peanut sauce, and fresh fruit salads. Or enjoy this fleshy rosé with seafood risotto, grilled tuna salade niçoise, linguine tossed with Pistou (the Provençal take on pesto), grilled three cheese panini, dim sum, herbed grilled rack of lamb with Spring vegetables, grilled eggplant stacks, grilled sea bass with oil and lemon, Moroccan tagine over couscous, and pulled pork barbecue. You simply can’t go wrong when pairing this rosé with cheese, whether it’s blue cheese, Brie, goat or Gruyere.
