4OCT06 Mary Taylor Wine MALBEC, Cahors, Southwest France 2020 (F, O, B)
4 an4 and 6 bottle levels $23 (member price $20)
100% Malbec 13.0% ABV
For this classic Malbec of Cahors, Mary Taylor partners with Odile Delpon. Cahors once covered 118,000 acres of vines, but after phylloxera has shrunk to 10,000 hectares. Known as the ‘black wine’ and well loved, Cahors was widely exported throughout Europe and the Middle East until phylloxera devastated the vineyards starting in 1865. Cahors is the traditional home of Malbec, although Mendoza produces far more. It’s gaining traction in Bordeaux, as it does better in a slightly warmer climate. Cahors is ESE of Bordeaux and about 50 miles NNW of Gaillac. The fruit for this Cahors comes from a single parcel, planted in 1988. Indigenous yeasts are used (as they are in Mary Taylor’s Gaillac). Aged in stainless steel for purity of fruit. Tart black plum, red raspberry, violets, woodsmoke
Food Pairing Suggestions:
