100% Malvasia 13.5% ABV
This will be the 3rd Orange Wine we’ve featured this year. It is more “normal” than the others featured in club. Orange Wines are made with green grapes, but with super extended skin contact, so the production method is like that of a red wine. Brothers Pierluigi and Silvano inherited the estate from their father Tullio, and together with Brigitte, SIlvano’s wife, have made Le Vigne di Zamò one of the greatest names of the area and the first winery from Friuli to win the "Tre Bicchieri del Gambero Rosso" award for a red wine, Ronco dei Roseti, back in 1988. As the crow flies, Le Vigne di Zamò is 18 miles northwest of Slavček (Wine #2). This is a rich & chewy wine, with puckery skin tannins. Apricot, peach, grapefruit, hazelnut. Six months of skin contact in amphora. This is a food wine.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
Enjoy this unique wine with spiced oven-baked fish or chicken, ground pork stuffed cabbage, butternut squash ravioli with brown butter sauce, Japanese-style sea bass, pasta with porcini and guanciale, chicken enchiladas with sour cream and avocado salsa, chicken curry over rice and roast chicken with mushroom barley risotto. This wine is also excellent with bold, exotic foods - think Asian, Moroccan, Korean and even Ethiopian cuisine! Or simply savor this wine with funky cheeses, charcuterie, anchovies, olives and roasted chestnuts.
