4MAY07 Le Monde CABERNET FRANC, Friuli, Italy 2020 (F, O)
4 and 6 bottle levels $22 (member price $19)
100% Cabernet Franc 13.0% ABV
Le Monde lies between the banks of the Livenza and Meduna rivers, close to the border between the provinces of Treviso and Pordenone in Friuli Grave. This translates into 30 miles NNE of Venice and 50 miles west of the border with Slovenia. Founded by the Pistoni family in 1970, it’s now owned by Alex Maccan. Cabernet Franc has been grown in Friuli for centuries. Rumor has it that Napoleon brought cuttings to Friuli. Aged in stainless steel. Blackberry, black raspberry, red cherry, Earl Grey tea, whiff of bell pepper. Not as mineral driven as Cabernet Franc from Loire Valley.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
Serve this elegant red with braised rabbit, grilled Portobello mushrooms, meatballs and spaghetti, herbed pork tenderloin with olives over mushroom polenta, eggplant Parmesan, chicken stuffed with Feta, preserved lemon and sun dried tomatoes, veal Scallopine, spinach and Fontina quiche, chicken tomato curry, beef cheek ravioli, and mushroom Marsala. This silky red also pairs with a wide range of cheeses from Italian favorites like Tallegio, Robiola and Gorgonzola to French chèvre such as Cabriflore or triple cream cow’s milk St. Andre.
