6JUL13 Maysara Winery “3 Degrees” PINOT NOIR, Willamette Valley, Oregon 2019 (F, O, B)
6 bottle level $30 (member price $27)
100% Pinot Noir 13.7% ABV
Husband and wife, Moe and Flora Momtazi are Maysara Winery & Vineyards co-founders. Moe was born in Tehran, the capital of Iran, and was raised by a family of farmers and educators. He was taught organic viticulture by his grandfather. They emigrated to the U.S. in the early 1980’s, fleeing the Islamic Revolution. (When you see me, ask about the history made the day before I tasted their wines.) In 1997 they purchased what is now the 532 acre Momtazi Vineyard. Their three daughters are their winemaker, head of sales & distribution and event manager. 3 Degrees is made by the three Momtazi sisters, all with different personalities. Aged nine months in neutral French oak barrels. Fruit forward attack of red cherry, strawberry, potpourri, with a round earthy finish. They believe in holding back each vintage until it’s ready to drink. I purchased the last of the 2019, and the 2020 will be ready in July.
