6JUN04 Neyers Vineyards CHARDONNAY, Carneros, Sonoma, California 2020 (F, O)
4 and 6 bottle levels $34 (member price $28)
100% Chardonnay 14.0% ABV
Neyers Vineyard was founded in 1984 by Bruce and Barbara Neyers. Bruce was National Sales Manager for Kermit Lynch and Barbara was the GM of Chez Panisse. The winery is tucked into a little corner of Napa Valley – on the East side – by Lake Berryessa. They are known for restrained and elegant wines. A neat section of their webpage is under the “About Us“ tab, where a list of “Influencers“ includes Albert deVillaine, Andre Ostertag, Daniel Brunier and Lulu Peyraud! This Carneros Chardonnay was aged in 30% new French oak on the lees with no stirring. The wine opens with notes of mango, almond, and creamed corn, and adds peach, vanilla, and chamomile on the palate. Grapes are sourced from three sites farmed by the Sangiacomo family, and one site by the Yamakawa family, all on the Sonoma side of the Carneros
Food Pairing Suggestions:
This classic Chardonnay is simply sensational with shellfish and seafood summer classics from mesquite grilled lobster or shrimp drizzled with garlic butter sauce to champagne and scallop bisque topped with crème fraîche and maple teriyaki glazed salmon with couscous and pineapple chutney. Or enjoy with baby arugula salad topped with heirloom tomatoes, roasted mixed beets, burrata, and basil vinaigrette, smoky pasta carbonara, grilled chicken thighs over asparagus and wild mushroom farro. Pair a glass with dreamy Tete de Moine, creamy Camembert, Halloumi or Brillat-Savarin drizzled with a touch of honey.
