6MAR09 Il Borro “Borrigiano” SUPER TUSCAN, Val d’Arno di Sopra, Tuscany, Italy 2020
4 and 6 bottle levels $23 (member price $20)
70% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon 14.0% ABV
Il Borro is arguably the most fashionable wine ever featured in the VV Wine Club, because it’s owned by the Ferragamo family. Ferruccio Ferragamo purchased the estate in 1993, and in the three decades since has poured money into not just the winery but the village. Today, the estate is managed by his children Salvatore and Vittoria. Val d’Arno di Sopra is one of the newest DOC’s in Tuscany. In the foothills of the Apennines, Val d’Arno di Sopra is east of Chianti, southeast of Florence and northwest of Cortona. Borrigiano has a new world nose, with tangy cherry, cranberry, boysenberry, tobacco on the palate, and an earthy finish. Fermented in concrete, aged for 10 months in French oak.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
Enjoy this Super Tuscan with lasagna rolls smothered with roasted red pepper sauce; bacon‐wrapped filet mignon over red‐wine risotto; roasted lamb shoulder with seasonal vegetables; braised veal cheek ravioli with shaved Parmesan; Florentine steak with parsley potatoes; Italian-style beef stew; coffee‐marinated lamb brochettes; duck breasts with hazelnuts over creamy polenta; grilled lamb chops with garlic and rosemary; and grilled rib eye steaks with tarragon, shallot and pink peppercorn butter. Hard Italian cheeses like Parmesan, Tallegio, Pecorino and Asiago also make for a perfect after‐dinner duo.
