4APR05 Tenuta Ronzano “Luna Perlata Spumante Brut” SPARKLING BLEND, Costigliole d'Asti, Piedmont, Italy NV(F)
4 and 6 bottle levels $21 (member price $18)
Cortese, Chardonnay 13.0% ABV
The Ronzano family has been producing estate wine since 1963, and their 3rd generation is now running the business. Red wines from Monferrato and Langhe are their main focus, but they also produce sparkling wines, including this beauty from Costigliole d'Asti, a village south of the town of Asti, in Alto Monferrato. When you read the words “Sparkling“ and “Asti“ in the same sentence, you may be thinking of an off-dry Moscato, but this wine is Brut, so it has only a little sugar. It’s a Charmat Method wine, preserving the fruit-forward notes. Bright and fresh, with green apple, lemon, pear, toasted almond. This is not a serious wine, rather an uncomplicated wine perfect for Sunday Brunch.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
Enjoy this party-perfect sparkler as an aperitif or alongside appetizers such as Gorgonzola and caramelized onion crostini, bacon wrapped dates drizzled with balsamic glaze, chicken satay, Italian sausage stuffed mushrooms, crispy arancini, garlic stuffed olives, jalapeño cheese straws and truffled popcorn. These bubbles also transition effortlessly to the dinner table complementing fried veal parmesan, grilled chicken with tequila and lime, roasted salmon, chicken cobb salad, classic chicken and mushroom Marsala, crispy catfish with seasonal veggies, fish and chips, linguine ai frutti di mare and classic pizza Margherita. After dinner these versatile bubbles would be equally delightful with Parma ham, Fontina, Camembert, Brillat-Savarin or bloomy-rind goat cheese
