      Level 2 Award in Wines Overview:


      This globally-recognized qualification explores the key grape varieties grown around the world, growing regions that define world's key wines, the different styles of wine produced, key labeling terminology, systematic approach to wine tasting, and major classifications to help you identify wines with confidence.

      This course is made up of two days of lectures followed by a review along with a 50 mulitple choice examination givew on a different date.

      Earn A Credential In Wine: 


      Candidates who successfully complete the certification course and pass the examination will have gained:

      • WSET Level 2 Award in Wines and Spirits certificate
      • WSET lapel pin
      • Training in the broad range of wine, spirits and liqueur and the knowledge to help you in sales, hospitality and wholesale areas of the industry
      • Tutored blind tasting experience using the WSET methodology
      • Ability to access a wine's quality and price
      • Ability to move onto the Level III: Award in Wines Qualification

      Is This Program Right for YOU:


      For Industry Personel and Consumer Wine Lovers, this structured and informative program provides vocational training in the broad range of wine to underpin job skills and competencies in the customer service and sales functions of the hospitality, retail, restaurant and wholesale industries.
       
      This certification is both valuable for the consumer wishing to gain a broader understanding of wine, as well as learn how to taste and assess wines professionally; and for those working in the industry desiring to obtain an intermediate level professional certification from a trusted internationally recognized organization. 
       
      There is no pre-requisite to take this program however successful completion of the Level 1 Award in Wines is recommended. Advanced preparation is required prior to the start of the course.

      Learning Objectives:


      Understand the factors that influence wine style and price.
      Know the characteristics of the principal grape varieties used in wine production.
      Know how to use the labeling terms on a bottle to deduce the style and flavor of still wines produced in the key wine producing countries of the world.
      Know how to use the labelling terms on a bottle to deduce the style, flavor and method of production of sparkling wines produced in the key wine producing countries of the world.
      Know how to use the labelling terms on a bottle to deduce the style, flavor and production method of sweet and fortitied wines produced in the key wine producing countries of the world.
      Be able to provide information and advice to customers and staff about wines.
      Be able to produce analytical tasting notes of wines using industry recognized tasting terms.

      The Exam:


      To give students an idea of the sort of questions which might be asked, here are two examples. The examination consists of 50 questions similar to these, to be completed in a maximum of 60 minutes.
       
      Compared to red wines, white wines are generally fermented at
      a) either higher or lower temperatures
      b) the same temperature
      c) higher temperatures
      d) lower temperatures.
       
      Which grape variety is considered to produce high-quality white wines in both Germany and Australia?
      a) Merlot.
      b) Semillon
      c) Shiraz.
      d) Riesling
