The Companhia Agricola do Sanguinhal was established in 1926 by Abel Pereira da Fonseca. He was a pioneer in innovative viticulture in the region, including monovarietal vineyard blocks, and planting over 30 different varieties. Their facility, including the historic home and gardens is about an hour drive north of the capital city of Lisbon. His company operates three farms, including Quinta do Sanguinhal, and is still owned by Mr. Fonseca’s descendants. This is an ambitious winery which includes a museum and wine store. Aged five months in French and American oak barrels (2nd use). Blackberry, black cherry, red raspberry, vanilla, anise. HOLIDAY DINNER
Food Pairing Suggestions:
It pairs perfectly with coffee crusted prime rib of beef with roast fingerling potatoes, herbed leg of lamb with vegetables, roasted pork with herbed rice, grilled Italian sausage with white Cheddar polenta, venison loin with blackberry sauce and seared duck breast with a balsamic glaze. This red is also delightful with blue cheeses such as Gorgonzola and Roquefort, as well as charcuterie.
