4APR11 Zuccardi “Serie A“ CABERNET SAUVIGNON, Valle de Uco, Mendoza, Argentina 2022 (F, O)
4 and 6 bottle levels $22 (member price $19)
100% Cabernet Sauvignon 14.0% ABV
Zuccardi is a 3rd generation family owned winery, founded in 1963. They are deeply invested in exploring the terroir of Mendoza, and feature a number of high end Malbecs with vastly different flavors. They founded a Research & Development facility to study terroir and share their research with other wineries. (A rising tide lifts all boats!) Don’t be surprised if VV hosts a Mendoza Terroir event featuring Zuccardi wines this year. The website says Serie A stands for “Argentina Series“, but that’s also the name of the top Italian Soccer League, and I’ve heard the Zuccardi family are huge soccer fans. The fruit is from estate vineyards in Valle de Uco and is aged in a combination of French oak and stainless steel. Black currant, blackberry, dark chocolate, whiff of bell pepper.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
This Argentine Cab pairs perfectly with saucy beef brisket and onions, pot roast with winter veggies, braised lamb drizzled with mint pesto, bruchetta topped with wild mushrooms and Fontina, duck confit and blood orange topped salad, skirt steak drizzled with pomegranate sauce, chili-rubbed venison with crisp potatoes, espresso rubbed rib eyes with braised garlicky kale, barbecued spiced lamb chops and of course, peppered steaks and Italian sausage with Chimichurri. This is the type of red blend that can stand up to a decadent dark chocolate truffle. Or simply savor a glass with aged cheeses like Spanish Manchego and Argentine Parmesan or roasted garlic and herb Cheddar.
