80% Chenin Blanc, 20% Chardonnay 12.0% ABV
“The world can’t survive on a salad and a glass of water.“ So says Gwenaëlle Regnard, who married into the Regnard family. (As I type this just before Thanksgiving, I can’t help but like this lady!) The Regnard family founded their winery during the French Revolution in 1791, and is on the 8th generation of ownership. Rosé represents 60% of their production, but their sparklers are delicious. Anjou is down river from Touraine, and has proven to be ideal for rosé and red made from Cabernet Franc, dry and sweet whites made from Chenin Blanc, as well as sparkling wine. This is a traditional method wine, seeing 18 months on the lees. Golden apple, apricot, lime zest, brioche
Food Pairing Suggestions:
These delicate bubbles are best shared with friends and smoked trout spread on crostini, fried crawfish with remoulade, freshly shucked oysters, gorgonzola and smoky bacon topped bruschetta, poached salmon over butternut squash risotto, buttermilk fried chicken, bacon, avocado and corn topped salad and crispy crab cakes with tartar sauce. These versatile bubbles are delightful with gingerbread crème brûlée, red fruit sorbet, white chocolate truffles and strawberry shortcake. Or savor the fizz with buttery triple-creme cheese, fresh chèvre and bloomy rinds such as Camembert, Chaource & Buche de Chevre.
