4 and 6 bottle levels $23 (member price $20)
55% Grenache, 45% Syrah 14.0% ABV
The winery was founded in 1808, bought into by Marius Chapoutier in 1897, and in 1922 became solely owned by the Chapoutier family. Michel has catapulted the winery across the world, with holdings in Alsace, Languedoc-Roussillon, Germany, Spain and Australia, but his heart remains in the Rhône Valley. He’s famous for biodynamic viticulture and having Braille on the labels in honor of an old friend.
La Ciboise is named after the home of Marius (Michel Chapoutier’s grandfather) in Tain Hermitage. Luberon is a rugged area that straddles Provence and Southern Rhône. Aged in concrete. Black raspberry, black plum, red cherry, black pepper, woodsmoke
Food Pairing Suggestions:
Enjoy this red with Grilled herb-crusted quail wrapped in bacon, roast pork shoulder with onions, saucy beef brisket with shallots, lamb gyros, five spice dusted chicken thighs, grilled portobello mushroom and eggplant stacks, and rosemary grilled chicken with frizzled leeks. And be sure to pick up a 2nd bottle for Christmas as this food-friendly red will pair not only with your roasted turkey, but with all the trimmings as well, from cranberry sauce to roast butternut squash or pumpkin tossed with wild rice. Or skip the meal and simply enjoy a glass with a hearty platter of aged Gouda, Parmigiano-Reggiano, Manchego, and cured meats such as Bresaola, Coppa and Soppressata.
