4FEB06 Bodegas Tarón “4M” TEMPRANILLO, Rioja, Spain 2018
4 and 6 bottle levels $20 (member price $17)
100% Tempranillo 13.5% ABV
Bodegas Tarón is the northernmost winery in Rioja, situated next to the Obarenes Mountains. For 2023, Tim Atkin named Bodegas Tarón the Cooperative of the Year. The fruit is from estate vineyards in four towns in Rioja Alta (Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón, Tirgo, Villaseca and Sajazarra), with an average vine age of 40 years. We featured their Rioja Blanco in January club. Emily really liked the quality for the $$ aspect of the Blanco, so we’ve decided to feature it in our cooking classes and events. This is a lighter style of Rioja, seeing just 4 months in American oak barrels. Ripe red cherry, cranberry, sweet oak tannins, vanilla.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
This balanced red is the ideal complement to lentil or pea soups; hearty beef stews; traditional Paella with fresh seafood and spiced chorizo; roast beef tenderloin with Spanish rice; ham and chorizo croquettas with romesco dipping sauce; red wine braised short ribs over Manchego polenta; braised pork shoulder with Mojo sauce and garlic yuca fries; wild boar ragu tossed tagliatelle; sauced up BBQ ribs with four cheese macaroni and buttered corn; herbed lamb chops with portobello mushroom risotto; and rosemary scented pork chops with wild rice. Or simply enjoy this luscious red with dreamy regional cheeses such as Cabrales, aged Manchego, Idiazábal and Montsec.
