4JUL03 Catherine et Didier Tripoz “Clos des Tourons” CHARDONNAY, Mâcon-Charnay, Burgundy, France 2023 (F, O)
4 and 6 bottle levels $23 (member price $20)
100% Chardonnay 13.0% ABV
Founded in 1989, this second generation family owned winery is in the Mâconnaise region of Burgundy, south of Côte d’Or. Clos des Tourons is their estate vineyard, mostly planted to Chardonnay, and they choose to use all the fruit, rather than sell some of it. The average vine age is 45 years. The term Monopole doesn’t quite apply, as they make red and sparkling wine from the same vineyard. Aged in stainless steel. Ripe & juicy attack, with lemon, quince, guava, hints of vanilla and butter. California Chard drinkers would like this wine.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
This chardonnay is the perfect match for shellfish, seafood and white meats in cream sauce. Try a glass with shrimp drizzled with garlic butter sauce, scallop bisque topped with crème fraîche, trout with asparagus, maple teriyaki glazed salmon with couscous and pineapple chutney, chicken in white wine sauce over wild mushroom risotto, creamy pasta Alfredo topped with blackened chicken, and pork chops over toasted polenta with Brie and sautéed mushrooms. This chardonnay is also the perfect partner for full-flavored cheeses like Tete de Moine, creamy Camembert, Halloumi and Brillat‐Savarin.
