4JUL05 Domaine Listinconu ROSÉ OF SCIACCARELLU, Île de Beauté, Corsica, France 2023
4 and 6 bottle levels $20 (member price $17)
60% Sciaccarellu, 40% Grenache 12.0% ABV
Corsica is an island between France and Italy, just north of Sardinia. It’s part of France, but culturally it’s just as much Italian as French. While Corsica’s wine tradition goes back to the Phoenicians (200 BC), the industry was jumpstarted by Algeria gaining independence from France in 1962. Many Algerian Pied Noirs moved to Corsica, and quadrupled the area under vine in 15 years. Sciaccarellu (“Shockarello“) is an indigenous grape, grown mostly in sandy soils in Western Corsica, known for bringing perfume to wine. Aged in stainless steel. Red raspberry, strawberry, white peach, and a hard edged mineral finish.
