4JUL10 Anthony Koster Family Estates RED BLEND, California 2020 (F)
4 and 6 bottle levels $21 (member price $18)
Zinfandel, Grenache, Syrah, Petite Sirah 13.9% ABV
Anthony Koster is a project of Paul Giusto of Highway 12 and Tony Lombardi of Lombardi Winery. Both gentlemen’s wines retail for $30 - $80, so Anthony Koster allows them to tap into a different price range. Tony grew up in nearby Petaluma, and has long term relationships with many growers in the cooler regions of Sonoma. There isn’t much info available, but I’m told the fruit is from Sonoma, Mendocino and Lodi, and that most of the wine is aged in stainless steel, with a portion aged in neutral French oak barrels. This is fun chuggable juice, and would be my July choice to pair with a juicy burger straight off the grill on a warm summer evening just as the sun begins to set. Blackberry, black cherry, blueberry, hint of anise.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
Save this burger wine for an afternoon grill‐fest. This rich and powerful red is divine with chargrilled lamb cutlets drizzled with warm Feta‐oregano sauce and pomegranate‐pistachio couscous, chile‐rubbed flank steak with Romesco, skirt steak rubbed with Moroccan spices and even Garam Masala‐spiced chicken wings. Bring on the exotic spices! Or just sip a glass with a sliver of sharp Cheddar, Edam or with Charcuterie!
