We do revisit wines in the VV Wine Club. We’ll feature a wine, then I’ll try another vintage a few years later, and include it again. I believe this is the first time we’ve featured the same vintage of a wine. I tasted 2016 Las Retamas in June, and realized that it’s in perfect drinking condition now, so here it is again! Vinos de Madrid is in the southern part of the Madrid region. It has a continental climate, with long hot summers and cold winters. El Regajal was founded in 1998, in Aranjuez, south of the city of Madrid. They serve proudly as a habitat for 77 species of butterflies, and include a butterfly in their logo. The Spanish owner (Daniel Garcia-Pita) loves Tempranillo, and the French winemaker (Jérôme Bougnaud) believes that a marriage of Spanish varieties and French varieties makes sense, so Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Petit Verdot are included in this blend. 14 months French oak (mostly used). Baked red cherry, coffee, strawberry, boysenberry, nutmeg, smoke.
