4JUN02 Riva de La Rosa VERDICCHIO, Verdicchio di Matelica, Marche, Italy 2022
4 and 6 bottle levels $21 (member price $18)
100% Verdicchio 13.0% ABV
The town of Matelica is located about 50 miles inland from Ancona. High altitude vineyards (1500 feet) in the Alta Elsina valley, as opposed to lower elevation vineyards near the coast. You may have tried the more famous Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi (especially since we’ve featured them in wine club). What’s the difference? Castelli di Jesi is on the Adriatic coast, and the wines tend to have more minerality. Matelica’s climate is more continental, and the wines can feature more fruit and nuttiness. Notes of tangerine, lemon zest, green apple, toasted almond, hints of salinity and chalk on the finish. Aged in stainless steel.
