4JUN05 Matthews Winery SAUVIGNON BLANC, Columbia Valley, Washington 2022 (F)
4 and 6 bottle levels $34 (member price $22)
100% Sauvignon Blanc 14.2% ABV
The Otis family rescued Matthews Winery in 2008 from financial ruin, and invested in people and facilities to bring the winery up to date. The winery is located in the Seattle suburb of Woodenville, and sources fruit from around Columbia Valley. Their main focus is Bordeaux style reds in the $50-80 range, but this Sauvignon Blanc is one of their best sellers. The fruit is from Spice Box Vineyard and Culloden Vineyard (both Horse Heaven Hills, both owned by the Mercer family) and Olsen Vineyard (Yakima Valley.) The fruit from the three vineyards was fermented and aged separately before blending. Aged in stainless steel and neutral oak for five months. Lemongrass, grapefruit, apricot, white blossom
Food Pairing Suggestions:
Enjoy this complex white with a tuna poke bowl, Vietnamese spring rolls, poached salmon with roasted Brussels sprouts tossed with bacon bourbon glaze, spicy peanut noodles, spinach and Gruyere quiche, mango shrimp salad, pasta tossed with fresh pesto sauce, spring greens salad drizzled with lemony vinaigrette and topped with Chèvre, fish en papillote over crushed parsley potatoes, rosemary-crusted chicken smothered with beurre blanc and pan-seared cod with a Tomme de Chèvre crust over herbed rice. And it’s no secret that Sauvignon Blanc is the perfect partner for tangy cheeses especially Crottin de Chavignol.
