Their winemaker Jean Ren Matignon is also the winemaker for Château Pichon Baron (Pauillac Grand Cru Second Growth). Cap Royal is named after the royal Cordouan lighthouse, the oldest lighthouse in Europe, located at the entrance to the Gironde Estuary. This 14th century beacon signaled safe passage to Bordeaux wine merchants. Bordeaux Supérieur means the viticulture and viniculture have more stringent requirements than Bordeaux Rouge. Details are scarce about the wine, but it’s hinted that the wine is produced at Château Pichon Baron and that the fruit is from the Médoc. For a modestly priced Bordeaux, the wine is rich and smooth with a good amount of new oak. California drinkers would like it. Blackberry, black raspberry, graphite, vanilla, cinnamon
Food Pairing Suggestions:
This crowd-pleasing blend is guaranteed to be the hit of your dinner party! Pair it with an elegant rosemary and garlic roast leg of lamb, porterhouse steak with caramelized onions and peppers, braised beef and mushrooms drizzled with a red wine pan sauce over potato leek hash, braised lamb shoulder with fennel, orange and baby potatoes and black pepper crusted filet with four cheese risotto. But you don’t need a fancy affair to pop open a bottle. Simply savor a glass with a mouth-watering bison burger topped with candied bacon and sharp cheddar or a platter of hard, sharp cheeses such as Roquefort, Beaufort, Comté and Emmental.
