100% Albariño 12.5% ABV
Adegas Gran Vinum was founded in 2002 by the Piñeiro Cores family, who have been grape farmers in Rías Baixas for generations. The family owns and farms eight acres of vines and works with 30 small growers. The head winemaker is Enrique Piñeiro. They are situated in the Val do Salnés subregion, the original subzone of Rías Baixas, jutting out into the Atlantic. The name Salnés comes from the salt flats that once covered the area and the sea breezes off the Atlantic often contribute to saline notes in their wines. Most of their wine is sold domestically. Astrid is designed for export around the EU and USA. Aged in stainless steel. Nectarine, tangerine, grapefruit, white flowers, whiff of salinity.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
Pair this aromatic white with regional specialties such as Pimientos de Padron (flash-fried peppers with olive oil and sea salt); Escalivada con Anchoas (roasted eggplant, red pepper, onion, sherry vinaigrette and anchovies); Mariscos en Escabeche (mussels, scallops and clams served with a roasted tomato and garlic vinaigrette); Pulpo a la Gallega (Galician-style octopus served warm with sea salt, olive oil, Spanish paprika and potatoes); Almejas al Albariño (steamed clams with white wine sauce); and Cerdo Ibérico con Esparragos Blancos (grilled pork with rosemary and thyme and white asparagus tossed in a lemon vinaigrette). This white is just as refreshing sipped on the patio along with regional cheeses like Garrotxa, Vare and Serrano-wrapped dates stuffed with goat cheese.
