4OCT02 Palivou Estate “Anemos” WHITE BLEND, Peloponnese, Greece 2022 (F, O)
4 and 6 bottle levels $22 (member price $19)
Roditis, Moschofilero 12.5% ABV
Palivou Estate was founded in 1995 by George and Aggeliki Palivou, but the estate they purchased in Nemea has grown grapes for 3500+ years. Anemos translates to Wind, in recognition of the windswept vineyards. While Nemea is best known for Agiorgitiko (the premium varietal of Peloponnese), this vineyard is also home to Roditis and Moschofilero. Roditis is one of the most widely planted white varieties in Greece, but most of the production isn’t exported. It’s a reddish skinned grape that brings lemon and minerality to the blend. Moschofilero is better known, with notes of aromatic pear, grapefruit and pineapple. I would compare this blend to Torrontes from Salta. Aged in stainless steel.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
This unique white is a perfect match for Mediterranean‐inspired dishes like pan‐roasted fish over Greek lentils or wood‐grilled lamb chops with lemony potatoes; fresh vegetable salads featuring eggplant, zucchini and yellow squash; garlicky shrimp with lemon and parsley; roasted whole fish with fennel and olives and spicy lamb pie. This Greek beauty is also the perfect partner for regional cheeses like Batzos, Kasseri, and Kefalograviera.
