6APR02 SoHu GRAŠEVINA, Feričanci, Slavonia, Croatia 2024
4 and 6 bottle levels $21 (member price $18)
100% Graševina 12.5% ABV
In a nod toward London, New York and too many cities to count, the name SoHu (South of Hungary) is an ode to the cross-cultural influence this region embraces in Croatia near the border of Hungary. This is northeastern Croatia, with a continental climate. In an example of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, their main varieties are Graševina (aka Welschriesling) and Frankovka (aka Blaufrankish). Viticulture has been practiced here since the 13th century. The winery’s cellar was built in 1804, and the winery was one of the first to be privatized after the fall of the Iron Curtain. Aged in stainless steel. Lemon, green apple, bosc pear, gardenias, minerality on finish.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
This refreshing white pairs perfectly with pulled chicken barbecue with Alabama white sauce and grilled corn; arugula salad topped with grilled chicken and goat cheese; grilled fish steaks with creamy mushroom risotto; tuna and avocado tartare; honey-glazed chicken wings; flash fried calamari; and crispy crab cakes. Or simply savor this lively white with soft cheeses such as Bûcheron, Crottin, or Brillat Savarin.
