6AUG02 Buglioni "Gabriella” TREBBIANO, Lugana, Veneto, Italy 2023 (F, O)
4 and 6 bottle levels $23 (member price $20)
100% Trebbiano 12.5% ABV
AlAlfredo and Mariano Buglioni (father & son) founded their namesake winery in Valpolicella in 1993. They didn’t know how to make wine, so for the first seven harvests, they traded their entire crop in exchange for winemaking expertise, then hired their own enologist. Like other Valpolicella producers, they turned their attention westward to Lugana (just sound of Lake Garda) for their crisp whites. Aged in stainless steel. Yellow peach, white flowers, roasted almonds and chalky minerality. Trebbiano is grown all over Italy, making wines of varying quality, but Gabriella jumps out of the glass.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
Pair this versatile, food-friendly white with light, regional dishes like tomato, burrata and basil antipasto drizzled with tangy balsamic, creamy fresh herb and goat cheese risotto, pressed pancetta and mozzarella panino over arugula and tomato, crispy fig and Gorgonzola arancini, and fettuccine tossed with grilled prawns and grated lemon peel. This delightful white also complements crispy calamari with a creamy citrus herb sauce, fresh sushi, scallop ceviche with a squeeze of lemon, and fresh tuna steaks with a sesame glaze. Or simply sip a glass with regional cheeses like Crescenza, Asiago or Pecorino Romano.
