6DEC11 Mouton Cadet “Rouge x Pierre” MERLOT, Bordeaux, France 2023 (F, O)
4 and 6 bottle levels $23 (member price $20)
100% Merlot 14.5% ABV
The Baron Philippe de Rothschild family has a history as distinguished as any family in Bordeaux, led by their ownership of Château Mouton Rothschild. They began producing Mouton Cadet in 1930, as a way to use grapes from younger vines and other areas of Bordeaux. They just introduced a Fresh series of wines, led by this Rouge x Pierre, named for Pierre Ögren, a family member involved with their Creative Lab. It’s a modern style wine, meant to entice younger consumers into drinking Bordeaux. Aged in stainless steel. Strawberry, red raspberry, rosemary, mint. California drinkers would like this wine, with its abundant fruit and relatively big ABV.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
This well-balanced red is guaranteed to be the hit of your dinner party. Serve it with an elegant rosemary and garlic roast leg of lamb; thyme roasted duck breast with caramelized shallots; porterhouse steak with caramelized onions and peppers; braised beef and mushrooms drizzled with a red wine pan sauce over potato leek hash; braised lamb shoulder with fennel, orange and baby potatoes; black pepper crusted filet with four cheese risotto; and mouth-watering bison burger topped with candied bacon and sharp cheddar. This easy drinking red would also complement a platter of hard, sharp cheeses such as Roquefort, Beaufort, Comté and Emmental.
