Mollydooker is wildly successful now with their brash Aussie style, but the owner’s journey has featured a number of peaks and valleys. Robert Parker helped with a few monster ratings as they got started, catapulting them into the public view. We were blessed with a visit from Luke Marquis (son of owner Sarah Marquis) in 2023, who entertained the crowd with Down Under witticisms. Two Left Feet is a blend of The Boxer Shiraz, The Scooter Merlot and The Maitre D’ Cabernet Sauvignon. You may have heard of “The Mollydooker Shake”: Pour a couple ounces in a wine glass, recap the bottle, turn it upside down, shake the bottle like a bartender trying to win a contest, then pour into wine glasses. Since the bottles are finished with Nitrogen, the shake releases this inert gas, taking the wine from flat to tasty in a few seconds. It sounds like a gimmick, but it works. Aged in 97% American oak & 3% French oak (41% new, 27% 2nd use, 32% 3rd use). Ripe and juicy black and red fruits jump out of the glass, along with jalapeño, cedar, cinnamon.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
Who needs food when you’ve got something this ultra concentrated and intensely decadent in the glass? This brash blend happens to be a heavenly hamburger wine (think gourmet burgers with all the fixings piled high), not to mention that it’s the perfect partner for peppered steak, carpaccio of venison, roast beef tenderloin served rare with a peppers sauce, spiced grilled chicken, barbeque ribs, smoked brisket, smoky chile, spicy Italian sausage or anything with a bit of spice for that matter. Or do what the Aussies do and pair it with grilled kangaroo. Or enjoy it in chilly weather fireside with strong cheeses like aged cheddar and blue.
