6FEB13 Routestock PINOT NOIR, Sonoma Coast, Coast, California 2022 (O)
6 bottle level $28 (member price $25)
100% Pinot Noir 13.5% ABV
Routestock is owned by Wilson Daniels and has one employee (Vance Rose). He knows everyone in Napa & Sonoma, and is able to purchase great fruit. He wouldn’t tell me his vineyard sources, but hinted that they range from Calistoga down to Coombsville in Napa, then Sonoma Coast. They use a custom crush facility to produce the wine. For the 2022 vintage, they used fruit from their estate vineyard (two miles from the Pacific), along with fruit from a vineyard on the southern part of Sonoma Coast (near Carneros) and a vineyard northwest of their estate. Routestock’s costs are low, so they can sell for less than wines of similar quality. Aged 11 months in French oak (12% new). Red raspberry, blackberry, rosemary, sage, sauteed mushrooms.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
This vibrant, velvety Pinot is deliciously divine with cedar plank grilled salmon, fig balsamic glazed ham with crispy fingerlings, maple glazed chicken breast stuffed with caramelized onions and goat cheese, and Italian sausage fritattas, yet capaple of standing up to a grilled ribeye steak drizzled with a sage brown butter sauce. This silky smooth red also complements creamy cheeses like Epoisses, Cabriflore, Port Salut and Saint Andre.
