80% Viura, 20% Tempranillo Blanco 12.5% ABV
Bodegas Tarón is the northernmost winery in Rioja, situated next to the Obarenes Mountains. For 2023, Tim Atkin named Bodegas Tarón the Cooperative of the Year. The fruit is from estate vineyards in four towns in Rioja Alta (Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón, Tirgo, Villaseca and Sajazarra), with an average vine age of 40 years. Aged on the lees in stainless steel for 3-4 months. White peach, grapefruit, green apple, white flowers. Nice aromatics for a medium-bodied white.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
This easy-drinking, crisp white is the perfect partner for grilled chicken or steak salads, thin-crust brick oven pizza like Margherita with fresh basil, crispy cod drizzled with lemon and capers, angel hair pasta lightly tossed in a clammy broth, barbecued eggplant stacks and other seasonal veggies, classic Spanish Paella, grilled chicken stuffed with goat cheese and herbs served over vegetable rice, and all your raw bar favorites. It's also a perfect summer sipper all by itself though equally delightful with Spanish cheeses like Manchego, Nata de Cantabria cream, Marjorera goat and Torta de Casar, preferably accompanied by salty slices of Serrano ham and Marcona almonds.
