6JAN13 Albert Bichot “Les Charmes” GAMAY, Morgon, Beaujolais, France 2020 (F, O)
46 bottle level $30 (member price $27)
100% Gamay 13.5% ABV
We’ve featured Albert Bichot’s wines since VV’s inception. One of Burgundy’s most accomplished negotiants, Bichot is also known for value. Located to the west of the village of Morgon, in the southernmost part of the appellation, the vineyards of Les Charmes cover gentle, south-east facing slopes at altitudes of between 350 and 400 metres. The highly eroded soil is very granitic & stony, giving this Morgon all of the fleshy fruitiness of the great Beaujolais wines, and rich, elegant expression typical of Burgundy wines. 50% sees French oak barrels. Cranberry jam, blackberry, violet, smoke.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
Enjoy this age-worthy Beaujolais with seared duck breast drizzled with cherry sauce, steak tartare on arugula, grilled chicken with creamy tarragon risotto, grilled sausage, peppers and onions, hanger steak frites, duck confit on mesclun greens with a tangy fig vinaigrette, classic coq au vin, burgers with herbed sweet potato fries, New Orleans Jambalaya and grilled chicken with butternut squash polenta. Or simply enjoy a glass with a sliver of Majorero, Mahon, Bucheron, Raclette, Vacherin or Saint-Nectare and charcuterie
