6JUL04 Pedroncelli ZINFANDEL ROSÉ, Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma, California 2024 (F, O)
4 and 6 bottle levels $23 (member price $20)
100% Zinfandel 13.9% ABV
I learned how to play Bocce on a sultry summer evening at Pedroncelli in August 2000. It had been a blazing hot afternoon, and heat still radiated from the gravel pathways behind the winery. Rather than sip on one of their signature Cabs or Zins, an icy cold glass of Zinfandel Rosé did the trick, quenching my thirst so I could concentrate on rolling my balls close to the pallino. This is a single vineyard wine, from the estate Bushnell Vineyard. Pedroncelli was founded in 1927, and they’ve been producing Zinfandel Rosé for 70+ years, way before Sutter Home rocked the wine world with White Zinfandel. (To be clear, this Rosé is a dry and crisp wine.) Aged in stainless steel. Strawberry, watermelon, grapefruit, rose petals.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
Enjoy this juicy rosé with smoked trout spread, cedar plank salmon over sticky white rice, sushi, Thai turkey burgers with spiced sweet potato fries, classic Bobotie, grilled cheese and Prosciutto panini, Thai curries, pulled chicken BBQ with Alabama white sauce, crispy fried chicken and naan flatbread topped with fig jam, Prosciutto, Gorgonzola and arugula. Or simply savor a glass with tangy, soft cheeses like Feta and goat or an Italian Rocchetta.
