6JUN08 Santa Julia “La Vaquita Clarete Natural” MALBEC BLEND, Maipú, Mendoza, Argentina 2024 (F, O
4 and 6 bottle levels $23 (member price $20)
80% Malbec, 20% Torrontes 13.5% ABV
Santa Julia is part of Famille Zuccardi, founded in 1963. Their wines serve as a bright counterpoint to the more serious Zuccardi wines. La Vaquita is produced using the Clarete Method, where red and white grapes are macerated then co-fermented. In this case, the maceration took 10 days, for full flavor and color extraction. The Torrontes provides floral and citrus notes, to balance the black, blue and red fruit flavors of the majority Malbec. The wine is unfiltered and unfined. This is a picnic perfect wine, especially served with a slight chill.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
Enjoy with seared duck breast drizzled with cherry sauce, steak tartare on arugula, grilled chicken with creamy tarragon risotto, grilled sausage, peppers and onions, hanger steak frites, duck confit on mesclun greens with a tangy fig vinaigrette, classic coq au vin, burgers with herbed sweet potato fries, New Orleans Jambalaya and grilled chicken with butternut squash polenta. Or simply enjoy a glass with a sliver of Majorero, Mahon, Bucheron, Raclette, Vacherin or Saint-Nectare and charcuterie.
