Saint Émilion is thought to be the oldest appellation in Bordeaux, with layers of history. Château La Croix Chantecaille has been owned by the same family since 1879. This estate is on the west side of Saint Émilion - in Chantecaille, on the border of Pomerol near Château L'Evangile and Château Gazin and neighbor of Château La Dominique and Château Croque Michotte. It sits just 400 meters from Petrus. Aged 12 months in French oak barrels (35% new, the rest 2nd and 3rd use). Blackberry, black plum, red raspberry, dark chocolate. This wine is smooth enough for California drinkers.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
This crowd-pleasing red is guaranteed to be a hit! Serve it with thin slices of rare beef tenderloin and portabella mushrooms, crostini topped with onion jam and fresh Chevre, marinated pork tenderloin grilled to perfection and served with caramelized onions and green apples, duck confit flatbread, grilled chicken with savory wild rice, lamb chops with mint pesto, bison burgers topped with candied bacon and sharp cheddar, braised beef and mushrooms drizzled with a red wine pan sauce over potato leek hash, black pepper crusted filet with four cheese polenta, Southwest style duck breast with oyster sauce, grilled veal chops with seasonal veggies, and wild boar sausage risotto. Or simply savor a glass with hard, sharp cheeses such as Roquefort, Beaufort, Comté and Emmental.
