6MAR13 Nine Oaks Estate KISI AMBER, Kakheti, Republic of Georgia 2021
6 bottle level $34 (member price $28)
100% Kisi 13.9% ABV
Veteran clubbers may remember my enthusiasm for Georgian wine and culture. If you enjoy great food and wine, stunning landscapes and meeting wonderful people, visit Republic of Georgia. Nine Oaks Estate is a collaboration between winemaker Mamuka Khurtsidze and salesperson Anna Addison, featuring biodynamic viticulture and natural winemaking. This is an amber wine made from the green Kisi grape. The fruit is destemmed, then fermented in Quevri (traditional Georgian earthenware vessels) for one month with skins on. The juice is racked off into tank for two months on the lees, then racked off again to remove the lees, and bottled a year later. The skin contact makes the wine a lovely amber color. Treat it like a European Pinot Noir. Decant for 15-20 minutes, then serve at 55-60 F. Ripe red plum, tart cherry, mango, orange blossom, herbs. Do not serve this wine chilled! I ordered their entire stock. I believe it’s enough to satisfy clubber orders for March, but if this description excites you, please get your wine sooner rather than later.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
From the importer’s website: A versatile food wine, we like this with Indian curries and exotic flavors from the Mediteranean from Greece, Turkey, the Middle East, and North Africa. As mentioned above, treat it like a European Pinot Noir, so pair it with roast duck with crackling skin, spring lamb, hearty vegetable stew with sourdough bread for dipping, roast Easter ham, or a selection of firm cheeses.
