90% Sangiovese, 10% Alicante 13.0% ABV
Cantina del Morellino is a co-op of 170 small farmers, averaging less than 10 acres of vineyards per farmer. While the label reads Tuscany, the fruit is from Morellino di Scansano and Maremma, areas inland from Bolgheri and west of Montalcino. While these appellations are overshadowed by their more famous neighbors, fruit can be grown for a fraction of the cost. Harvest times are micromanaged by their agronomist, and chief enologist Paolo Caciorgna. The Cantina is wholly devoted to sustainable farming. Tangy red cherry, red raspberry, smoke, balsamic. Aged in stainless steel. Like Tenuta Ronzano, this is an uncomplicated wine, good with food or by itself. Civetta translates to Owl.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
This crowd pleaser is delightful paired with lasagna Bolognese; seared duck breast over creamy polenta; marinara pasta tossed with grilled shrimp; braised oxtail ravioli with mushroom sauce; Italian style braised beef stew; swordfish with salsa verde; bruschetta topped with sun-dried tomato paste; Prosciutto and shaved Pecorino; and veal Milanese with lemon risotto. After dinner enjoy a glass of this easy drinking blend with a sliver of hard Italian cheeses like Parmesan, Tallegio, Pecorino and Asiago.
